I am conducting an experiment in my garden this spring. I have two different beds that I am planting in. One has been dug down two feet and allowed to air out for 72 hours. The other bed has simply had the weeds removed leaving the topsoil relatively intact. I estimate that the dug out field will have better drainage and air supply thus yielding healthier vegetables more rapidly.
