This is a Southern Alligator lizard or San Diego Alligator lizard that I found in my back yard. I called off the cats and this one got away without a scratch.
Archives For organic pest control
Last Thursday, I caught a public access show about an organic gardener who used Marigolds to protect his tomato plants. I looked into the use of companion plants. I am excited by the results. Most of the companions listed here are herbs and flowers that I was wanting to grow anyway. Talk about a synergy bonus!

Marigolds are in full swing. My wife went ahead and planted them in a rectangular pattern beneath the big sunflower. They seem to like it there. One of my favorite things about these plants is the method for collecting seeds. It’s very satisfying and I can’t put my finger on exactly why. I have managed to get my first sprouts to survive. I hope they are effective in deterring pesky unwanteds!
Well, it looks like my most aggressive enemy in the fight over pest control in the back yard the “hornets”, polistes exclamans, have decided to bury the hatchet. It seems that the tomato worms (Manduca quinquemaculata), have met their match with an aerial assault!
It also seems that I applied the wood sealant unevenly on my fence boards.
