Archives For parks

It is raining down here in sunny Southern California. Yesterday I took my children to a park to help prevent them from getting cabin fever. We visited Mance Buchannon park in Oceanside. The playground was pretty soaked, so we burnt our oatmeal on the 0.93 mile track that surrounds the grass fields.

We were dressed warmly, and the weather was merely drizzle. No one was equipped with galoshes. My duty was to keep the group moving, albeit slowly, in one direction and to scout for jump-able puddles. No puddle is too small to splash in. I take my three-year-old’s word for the existence of a puddle, even if I can’t see it. Puddles which are too deep or which contain UFOs are off limits.

We had fun. Everyone got a little exercise, became cold enough to appreciate the heat of our home, and we achieved the first tandem naptime in over a week. Not bad for a rainy day!

That was fun. Cold but fun.
